2016 was a difficult year for Turkey. From an attempted military coup to Islamic State deadly terror attacks and Kurdish insurgency, Turkish society suffered a lot and 2017 looks even harsher.
Erdogan, battled a military coup launched by the Turkish Gendarmerie and Army putschists. It managed to win back the country thanks to an incredible popularity in the streets , making him even more popular right now than the founder of Turkey , Ataturk. Still following the coup Erdogan pushed hard and crushed all his political opponents from every spectrums of society. From the Army to the universities , he eliminated all his opponents , leaving him without political opponents in Turkey , seriously endangering Turkish democracy.
The Situation in Syria and the disastrous Turkish Foreign Policy under Davutoglu, influenced the security situation in Turkey. Turkey which is now fighting the Islamic State and the Kurds in Syria, is facing a backlash on his home front , as many Syrian refugees have been radicalized by ISIS. These radical elements committed an incredibly high number of terror attacks in Turkey’s main cities . Countless number of attacks are still foiled everyday by Turkey internal security services.
The Kurds are also trying to launch an insurgency against the government security forces in the South East of the country , with less success but still putting pressure on Turkish Forces inside Turkey.
